The purpose of a Master Plan is to establish a framework of goals and objectives that will assist the City with planning efforts to attain the community’s overall shared vision. It serves as a long-range (15-20 year) vision for the future of the community, and as a guide for how the city can become the place it strives to be. Master Plans are used in making big picture decisions and helps direct development in different areas of the community. They also promote and strengthens valued community assets, while encouraging new partnerships and opportunities.

State law requires communities to, at minimum, review their Master Plan every 5 years and update as needed. It is important to note that the Master Plans are not legally binding but can provide the basis for making policies that are enforceable.
