Board of Review

The Board of Review is an independent board that hears appeals and reviews certain property tax assessment matters in accordance with Michigan law. Its primary responsibility is to ensure property assessments are fair, accurate, and administered consistently.

Annual Meeting Schedule

  • March Board of Review – Meets on the second Monday in March to hear property assessment appeals and review the current year's assessment roll.
  • July Board of Review – Meets on the Tuesday following the third Monday in July, if business is scheduled.
  • December Board of Review – Meets on the Tuesday following the second Monday in December, if business is scheduled.

What the Board Reviews

Depending on the meeting, the Board may consider:

  • Property assessment appeals
  • Property classification determinations
  • Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) appeals
  • Poverty Exemptions
  • Disabled Veteran Exemptions
  • Qualified Agricultural Exemptions
  • Eligible Personal Property and Manufacturing Personal Property exemptions
  • Qualified errors and other matters authorized under the Michigan General Property Tax Act

Please note that not all matters may be heard at every meeting. Certain appeals and corrections may only be considered during specific Board of Review sessions as established by state law.
